Forage Modern Workshop

4 designers. 4 pieces of oak. 4 different ideas.

What can you make out of a piece of oak?

If you didn't already know that we work with some very talented local designers, here's more proof. We asked four local furniture designers and makers (Squared Furniture, OCD Furniture, Tandem Made, and Live Oak Ironworks) to take the same simple piece of 20x54 oak slab and turn it into something new. No limits. No criteria, other than that they had to use the oak. The finish product is four new beautiful and very different from the next pieces. Stop into the store and vote for the piece you're most drawn to. We will have them on display through May.

Minnesota Shelf

We have Minnesota pride. And apparently, so do a lot of people in the Twin Cities. When we launched our website in April, the first item that sold was a kitschy Minnesota Shelf (shown left). It was sweet, with a textured colored plastic backing. After it sold, we had several people asking when we were going to get more in stock, and they were all disappointed when we shared the news that it was a one-of-a-kind, vintage piece.

Because we like all of you, and hate to disappoint, we decided to make our own version of the Minnesota shelf.  We worked with Patrick Simpson, of Minneapolis Joinery.  It was a fun, and fairly simple process and with Patrick's help, we decided to have 2 color options using a technique to print the colors on the wood to show the grain.  They're amazing.

More about Patrick
A lifelong resident of South Minneapolis, Patrick, of Minneapolis Joinery is passionate about the local art scene and excited to be a part of this creative and brilliant group of artists.  Experimenting with different mediums, Patrick found his passion in blending woodworking with painting.

Eastvold For Forage Modern Workshop

It is an honor to be working with Eastvold Furniture, designing an exclusive line for Forage Modern Workshop.

We've admired owner Matt Eastvold's work for some time. Out of his shop near Northfield, Minnesota comes fine crafted furniture. And it's surprising to us that more people in Minnesota aren't aware of his work, which has a wide following in New York and San Francisco. We hope to help change that.

It started with a simple meeting. Matt is not just "Minnesota Nice," he's a genuinely good guy. He was able to take our vision for an office line using material from Wood from the Hood, pair it with an idea for powder-coated steel and design three great pieces: a desk, and side table/file storage, and a storage cubby.  Find out more about Matt in an interview.

Eastvold for Forage Desk and Side table now available for purchase!

Thanks, Matt - for being a great partner and friend!
